We may have been dazzled by the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, but what is making us truly excited is the much prized Beyond membership key fob that will be handed out during the massive 12 hour “Summer Blowout” event which takes place tonight/tomorrow morning, DM delving into the detail of this & some last minute news of THE happening of the weekend.

The 2012 Olympics may have Danny Boyle creating all the spectacle & drama, but as our favourite club brand & awesome afterhours enters a new era on this Olympic weekend, it is new promoter Ben Kaye that is pressing all our excitement buttons, as not only is he taking the helm at a pivotal moment, joining two blockbusters brands together for a one-off outing, but he is launching (or should we say re-launching) the much prized & sought after Beyond membership, this time coming our way by a very smart little key fob.  But while this is much cause for excitement (more info on that shortly), there is much more to tempt you into Area’s doors  tonight/tomorrow morning, not least an all-star cast of D.J.’s from both the Beyond & the Matinee camps, the latter flying in their latest star turn, Javier Medina, while there are some real back-to-back set treats in store.

So, we propelled all the P.R. in our post “Brand Match Magnificence” (check it out at http://discomatt.com/web/?p=5636) but as we missed out on devoting a full focus to the vent, we will take you through some of the highlights of this masterful meet & then run back through that all important detail. But naturally we have to start with the wonderful news that Beyond has a new promoter in the form of one Ben Kaye and a better choice the Orange Nation top brass couldn’t have made, as Ben brings with him a wealth of talent, experience & contacts from his clubbing exploits both here in the capital & across the globe. Indeed, Ben is kind of a global guy in terms of some of the brands he has been connected with, not least the massive Spanish sensation that is WE Party, Ben having been heavily involved with events both here in London & in Madrid, while he has also been hopping around the world with WE head cheese Victor Pallas & his team on what seems a never-ending & enthralling “On Tour” series of meets.

However, back here in London, Ben has also been connected & involved in the biggest charity clubbing event on the calendar, The Wig Party, an annual party that has grown in stature & status each year in the last five, now attracting scores of A list celebrities as well as expanding the offer into a second outing, Match seeing “The Masked Ball” launch to amazing accolade, Ben at the centre of it all & contributing considerably. So, he brings to Beyond all this experience as well as a catalogue full of contacts, his face one of the more familiar on the capitals clubbing circuit and, as a result should prove an accomplished asset to this awesome afterhours which is very much on the up & up. And, as a first feather in his cap, Ben finds himself promoting & re-launching that membership we mentioned earlier, a pass that has plenty of benefits, not least fast track entry, preferential coatcheck facilities & access to the two VIP balconies, the new one at the front of Area’s main room very impressive indeed, so, this much sought after membership key fob being a major reason why an early arrival at tonight’s event is advisable.

However, there are plenty of other reasons to make a date with this “Summer Blowout” event, not least the enormous D.J. line-up, the promotions team patching together players from both brands, although, unsurprisingly, there is a considerable weighting towards Beyond, perhaps reflective of the fact that is it’s this brilliant brands backyard that is hosting the joint event. That said, Matinee get more than a look in as inbound to London especially for this party is our Barca boy, Javier Medina, a terrific talent who’s musical genre origins lean towards tribal & tech, although, having represented Matinee across Europe & in the US over the last twelve months, has evolved his sound to include more vocal infusions in his performances, while staying true to his roots. And having commissioned a special podcast to celebrate his inaugural for Matinee (& Beyond of course) here in London, it is clear that those tribal roots come through from the off, while the in & out injections of vocals keeps the Matinee style of sound honest enough to indicate that Javier will find favour with the “Summer Blowout” main room of revellers, his compilation well worth a listen &/or download by going to http://orangenation.podomatic.com/entry/2012-07-19T03_57_39-07_00.

But in true Beyond style, there will be three rooms of sound and that all-star cast of residents deployed in familiar format, so The Chapel space sporting the likes of David Jimenez, Paul Christian, & D’Johnny, while The Terrace room boasts Jonny M, Rob Sykes & two of the special back-to-back set performers, lovely lady’s Verity Mayes & Bryony Masters mixing up plenty of tech & tribal, while the more upfront & euphoric house sounds that The Sharp Boys have in their armoury will surely be one of the highlight performances not to be missed here. However, all eyes will be on the main room for the meaty part of this meet, Javier set to star between 5 & 7 a.m., following on from the first back-to-back D.J. performance from Alan K & Paulo Moreno, while for us it is the headline set from 7 till 10 a.m. that is exciting us the most, as the recently formed duo team of Steve Pitron & Jamie Head come together again to surely lift the roof off this “Summer Blowout” bash, Mr Pitron ready & waiting to storm the show with a score or more of sounds, many lifted from his recently released double podcast production “Summer 2012”, both essential additions to your compilation collection by going to http://stevepitronsessions.podomatic.com. And while the exact line-up & timings have not been confirmed, we reckon that Fat Tony will round of the main room action from 10 till midday tomorrow morning, meaning a music fest to match the might of Matinee & Beyond combined.

So let’s recap on some of the detail we propelled in our picks post earlier this week, this Beyond vs. Matinee “Summer Blowout” event now less than eight hours away, host venue Area’s doors opening at midnight tonight (Sat 28th July) and the event running the full twelve hours to midday tomorrow (Sun 29th July), advance tickets still surely the way to go and available online via http://orangenation.co.uk or at the usual Soho outlets, Prowler, Clone Zone & 50, as well as bars Comptons & Ku, priced at £10 (booking fees apply), while discounted entry is also still available by application to http://tinyurl.com/beyondmatinee. However, if you want to risk entry on the door, then do so at your peril & expect to pay much more, this surely becoming another roadblock event, particularly as other events spill out at that rubicon time of between 4 & 7 a.m. and dare we again remind you to keep your eyes out for those much prized beyond membership’s it sure to be a key fob frenzy for new promoter Ben Kaye to manage as word spreads round the club as to who has managed to land this much prized possession. Naturally we will be in the thick of the action, nibble size tweeting from our usual spot, all the action available by going to http://twitter.com/discomatt, so if you see us, do come say hi, but make sure you make a date with Beyond vs. Matinee & in so doing, “Go There! Be There! (DISCO MATT)

With summer well & truly started here in London, it’s not just the weather that is screaming sunshine, but with part one barely bedded in, we have been hit with the might of part two in Steve Pitron’s phenomenal podcast production, “Summer 2012”, this second instalment having completely swept us off our feet with its fabulousness. So, we simply had to follow suit with our own “part two” devotion, delving into the detail of this colossal composition which is sunshine & summer personified and one that, like part one, has made it to our “Podcast Of The Week” slot, downloading available by clicking on the image below or on the link beneath.

So, “Summer 2012 Part Two” is here and just as Steve stated in his promo text, we too have picked up in this feature where we left off with part one, our concluding comments then suggesting that the benchmark had been set very high for part two to at least match or even exceed the former, the question remaining, has this new & second instalment achieved either? Well, let’s leave that answer to the end and rather delve into the detail of this dance delectation, although before we do, we will let you into a little secret that we were very privileged to receive the first pressing of part two just over a week ago, this initial version quite close to the one that is out there now, but in his usual quest for perfection, Mr. Pitron has applied a few tweaks to what (in our opinion) was his best composition yet, this refreshed part two ever better & like part one, very reflective of the genre journey Steve has taken us on. Indeed, with the new additions to what was already Pitron perfection personified to us, Steve has elevated “Summer Part Two” to a spectacle pedestal status that we feel is unrivalled by any of his previous podcasts, part one included, twenty one towering tunes making for a delightful deluge of destruction, this word used affectionately to describe the effect that Pitron picks have on us.

Kicking off with “Loveground”, Steve couldn’t have chosen a better track to steer the podcast on its prolific course, a collection of tunes that, in his own words, “…features some of my biggest Beyond tracks from the last few months, along with some hot exclusives…” this opener one of a handful of additions that grip our emotions enthrallingly from the off, then rolling nicely into the funktastic “Right Before My Eyes”, artists The Hoxton Whores, regular Pitron podcast inclusions. But as Steve also says, “Summer 2012 Part Two” also has an “…old skool flava about it & includes some great 2012 updates of much loved classics…”, “People Hold On” a brilliant example, while further into the mix tracks “Show Me Love” & the Stonebridge mix of “Long Day” two other outstanding examples. But these come after a run of Pitron Beyond bests extraordinaire, not least the titanic “Titanium” in D.J. Enry remix form, along with the brilliant “Voyage”, the even better “Lift Me Up” and one new Steve find, “Sotto” with its horn inclusions set to thrill the Beyond crowds beyond belief, while another new track to this revised part two triumph, Offer Nissam’s “I’m In Love”, which here is given the superb re-work treatment by Gurabear’s boys, Nacho Chapado & Ivan Gomez, make for a first half of this 100 minute marvel that is difficult to better & is as close to a Pitron Beyond performance as we could ever wish for.

However, with the pace of this podcast already at octane fuel level, Steve keeps us delightfully deluged with destruction as more & more of the same blend of brilliant Beyond-eque beats & those old skool flava mixes fill our ears, the truly towering “I Heart You” a Peter Rauhofer remix masterpiece deployed by Mr Pitron to pulsating & emotionally erupting excellence effect, our pulses absolutely racing by now, although when the heart rendering & memory making “Lola’s Theme” hits us we know we are in seventh house heaven once more, this 2012 re-make carefully drawing on elements of the original yet given the re-work a style of its own, amazing. But this colossal composition continues to thrill, more spectacular sounds sending us skyward, highlight tracks undoubtedly “Where Have You Been”, “Body & Soul” and the until now identity hidden “Must Be The Feeling” a tune we had to refer to simply as “New Track 3” in our nibble size tweets from the beyond dancefloor, this Nero track having benefitted from the Funkagenda treatment & is the biggest sound statement for Beyond that we know. However the spectacular Steve Pitron “Summer 2012 Part Two” podcast story doesn’t quite end at Nero, as with classic’s both in original & remix form filling the final slots, it is down to two Pitron favourite artists to round off this majestic mix, Florence & the Machine & Serge Devant, the latter’s track “Dice” still moving us to joyful tears every time we hear it.

So, that’s our journey through part two, leaving us to conclude on the second instalment is Steve’s 2012 series by answering that question we posed at the beginning of this feature by saying a resounding, yes, yes & yes, as not only has it at least matched part one, but, in our humble opinion, has way exceeded the former, in content & delivery, the mix between Beyond hard hitters & those classics remixed, pure house music heaven. Plus, as a compilation for the Summer, it is bursting with sunshine pure Steve style, and in terms of genre’s he pretty much covers all bases, dance, uplifting, vocal, tech, progressive, euro beat, the lot really. Having been so hooked to  his “Jan 2012 Session”, there was a question mark in our mind that Steve had it in him to deliver something more delightfully deluged with destruction, but in both parts of “Summer 2012” he has done just that, proving yet again that there is nothing quite like a Pitron perfected & pulsating podcast, plus with plans to join the two together in one massive mix, we are sure we will feel as though we have died & gone to heaven in his house music hands. (DISCO MATT)

Postscript

Naturally, our feature wouldn’t be complete without that all important podcast page download link which is http://stevepitronsessions.podomatic.com/entry/2012-07-20T18_07_58-07_00 and we know that Steve would be thrilled if you could post your own personal message as well as pressing the “like” button, while watch this space for news on an “idents” version as well as the release of both part one & two combined, which will make for close on three hours of Pitron podcast perfection.

For the many years that we have been cavorting around clubland, we have been very fortunate to not only bump into but be-friend a whole host of D.J.’s both here in London & across the globe, the music that they play & produce undoubtedly our single most passion of any in our world, while amidst the scores of names we could roll-call, there is one that for all of that time, but particularly in the last small handful of years, has tipped our scales perhaps more than any other. Indeed in the tough months of 2012 so far, it has been this individual that has drawn us out onto the scene where others have failed, his music the magnet that also drives the energy & enthusiasm we have for stepping out on the scene, not to mention powering our pedals during our daytime working week. And focussing just on 2012 but looking back to the first month of the year, it was his podcast release that not only captured the imagination of 10’s of thousands of ardent fans, but has pretty much ruled that pedal pushing periods of our working week ever since, a twenty four track triumph that we have not yet (and probably never will) tire of, while previous podcasts of his rule populate our playlists like no other music producer we know.

We are, of course, talking about Steve Pitron, a D.J. & producer of music that has been at the top of his & the capital’s clubbing circuit game for more years than we wish to mention, such has been the lasting appeal of his sound & style. Indeed while others of his generation have very much fell by the wayside, Mr Pitron continues to plough a prolific path, often headlining some of the biggest brands & parties on the scene, Beyond, Matinee, WE, SuperMartXe, & Orange just some. But it doesn’t stop there, as while his music productions with studio partner Max Sanna (of which there are many) often get overlooked by the casual clubber, their provenance are such that they regularly receive airplay from a host of national & international radio stations, as well as reaching out to revellers on dancefloors across the world. However, while there is no substitute for savouring a live Steve Pitron performance, his podcasts do carry considerable clout among the clubbing community, as well as dance music discerners, which means that when a new recording is released, it is big news indeed, even if he has been keeping us waiting for longer than we would have liked, perhaps a Pitron ploy that in the case of “Summer 2012” has worked like a dream.

So it’s here, that much awaited new Pitron podcast, or should we say “podcasts” as Steve has decided to treat us (like he did last year) to two compilations under the “Summer” title, although unlike the two 2011 releases, part’s 1 & 2 this year are likely to be much more closely tied together in both style & substance, as well as being much closer to the feel of a live Pitron performance. But while we wait for the second instalment with immense interest, Steve has already stolen his own previous podcast show with Vol. 1, very much taking us on a jovial journey through a spectrum of Steve style of sounds that make this first part stand-out from the first of his 2012 productions, kicking off with the familiar vocal track “Such A Good Feeling” which is given a funky twist & update by Crazibiza, remix artists that feature in many of Mr Pitron’s podcasts, the next two tracks straying from traditional territory that, on first listen, had us scratching our heads a little, but as we reach the fifteenth play, fit the journey pattern like a glove. But in the spectacular “Heat Of The Night” which bowled us over when we heard it first at Beyond, Steve certainly drops the first delicate dose of destruction, this already having become one of those coveted Pitron/DM anthems that always gets our trademark tearful emotional eruptions of euphoria when we hear it. So, having firmly planted the heavenly house music hook into us, Steve quickly reels us in like a trapped fish on a line with first Flaxen Beats & then Avicii, although we try to wriggle out of his grasp with another duo of uncharacteristic Steve selections, these nevertheless confirming that he is cleverly steering us on that genre journey that has become amazingly addictive.

As this creative compilation hits the half way mark with the superb “Sky”, erupting our emotions in the same way that “Take Me Higher” did/does on his Jan 2012 release, Steve has certainly selected seventh sound gear, entering the realms of his live performances with precise pronunciation, another classic re-work choice, this time “That Feeling” leading us willingly into more dollops of destruction as the truly towering “Somebody I Used To Know” hits us broadside with its brilliant beats, the destructive door slammed shut with no escape. And like we often get pinned on our spot at Beyond by plumes of Pitron perfection, the 2012 version of “Sundays At Heaven” confirms that any form of resistance is futile, we willingly sinking into successive scintillating selections that include tracks from two of our favourite artists of now, Nadi Ali & Etienne Osborne, both before we are completely consumed, head in hands at this house music heaven when Steve hits us with “Pump Up the Jam” into “My World”, his masterful mixing come blending, which is pitch perfect all the way through, spine chillingly good at this point. But “Summer 2012 Part 1” is not yet over, oh no, as those emotions erupt once more with the Velardi & Vitti re-work of The Lighthouse Family’s “Be Happy”, before Mr Pitron sends us packing with a fantastic finale in the form of Prok & Fitch’s stunning “Symphony” which delivers yet more delicate drops of destruction that leave us clammering for more.

So, it goes without saying that this Steve Pitron summer smash of a podcast should (if it hasn’t already) make it into your collection and one you can download by going to direct link http://stevepitronsessions.podomatic.com/entry/2012-07-14T08_25_40-07_00 where details on the full track listing is available & where we would encourage you to post your own comment of approval for what is most definitely one of Steve’s  finest podcast productions ever, thus setting the benchmark extremely high for part 2 to at least match or even better, which in the hands of the masterful Mr Pitron, has every chance of doing so. With this exceptional mid-week meet seemingly going from strength to strength, Disco Matt sticks to what is fast becoming a Wednesday tradition, as he points his “Pick of The Day” finger in the direction of Gigolo, its “Service” further info a “Pick Of The Day” banner click away opposite or an image click below, while DM delves a little deeper with his dinky delectation beneath

With Wednesday’s still firmly in the “school night” category for us, it is very rare to find us stepping out on the scene these days, while given the inside information we are getting on Gigolo, there are plenty party heads that shun school in favour of generous scoops of soiree socialising & a little sauce on the side, which this mid-week meet has in abundance. And in the hands of promoters David & L.a. Hart, Gigolo’s success is pretty much assured, the heady cocktail of magnificent music, heavenly hunks & sumptuous surrounds, make it a wonderfully winning formula & one host venue The Shadow Lounge & its team are proud to be a part of. But with so much more to this tremendous night on the town, it is little wonder that it continues to find itself on our “Pick Of The Day” pedestal, this week being no exception, we delving into & then dicing up the detail of this “Service” event

So, Gigolo “Service” is sizing up this week in celebration of host venue Shadow Lounge’s 11th birthday, by jetting in favourite porn star Marco Sessions, along with Lucas Entertainment’s Edji Da Silva as well as special porn star guest, Samuel Colt, all three not only performing on stage, but entertaining you lucky ones that get into the live X rated photo-shoot or into a private booth with these muscle-bound beefcakes. But it’s not all about the porn stars, as the music plays a big part too, this week seeing new & rising D.J. talent, Aamyko, who takes up the first slot, no doubt delivering plenty of “…high energy slut jams…”, while experienced international D.J./Producer, Oliver M follows with his own blend of sexy beats &  euro style track treats. And if all that wasn’t enough, then you can tuck into a special Gigolo cocktail (we have tried them & they are yummy) for just a fiver & that gets you entry into the XXX photo-shoot we deluded to earlier, while its always worth either “…stripping right down or dressing right up…” as this could mean you become one of the “Hot 20”, a special package served up by Gigolo, where you , along with your pals can get into the club for free and, what’s more, the winner out of the 20, gets “…down and dirrrty…” with the Gigolo porno-stars in their own private booth with VIP entry & drinks!

So, suffice to say, for a marvellous mid-week treat, we cannot think or recommend a better place to be than at Gigolo, “Service” taking place tonight (Wed 11th July) at the Shadow Lounge in Soho, doors opening at 10 p.m. & the club running through until 3 a.m., entry just £8 on the door, while for concessions & “I Am Soho” card holders, it’s a mere £5. With more info available at http://gigolodisco.com, http://theshadowlounge.co.uk &/or http://facebook.com/GIGOLODISCO, along with an insight into Gigolo’s imagery & photography available at http://shootmeup.co.uk & http://gigolodisco.tumblr.com, don’t forget that 1 a.m. XXX photo-shoot, leaving us to simply say, “Go There! Be There! (DISCO MATT)

Departing a little from his usual monthly mixes, Zach Burns’ residency at Popcorn’s Departure Lounge being this inspiration of this latest compilation in his “House Sessions” series, our premier protégé player proves his position with his most prolific production yet, DM delivering a dinky devotion on the dance-tastic delight that has made his “Podcast Of The Week” choice.

It is no secret that, despite showing our support for scores of D.J.’s & music producers, both here in London & across the globe, there are, nevertheless, a handful that get extra attention, Zach Burns being one such individual, and having closely followed & supported his progression behind the decks for over 12 months now, we have seen this talented young man’s D.J.’ing career grow in both strength & stature, very much manifested in the roll-call of residencies he has buckled under his belt. And with that list extending to brands such as CasaLatina, Gigolo & Matinee (the later a lifelong dream already achieved), 2012 has proven a yardstick year for Zach already, with international appearances in both Berlin & Paris to add to his rising repertoire, while bread & butter gigs for Profile, Lo-Profile & The Edge back here in London have cemented his standing on the scene as a new force to be reckoned with, Zach standing tall amongst the other poppy players that scatter the scene.

So, supporting Mr Burns comes quite easily to us and with his equally prolific podcast production matching his activity out on the scene, not a month has gone by this year without one compilation or another of his making it into our collection, whether it be the specialist mixes from residencies or guest slots, such as Scream, GMF or that momentous Matinee meet, or from his now considerable “House Sessions” series. Yet while his productions certainly hit the heavenly mark, certain track selections fervently floating our boat, it has been rare for any one mix to make it into our daily playlist, one which fills our ears while exercising our other occupation, zooming around London’s roads, an elite selection only extending to the likes of Brent Nicholls, The Oli & Jamie Head, while the domination of a Steve Pitron podcast pretty much speaks for itself, the peddle power his productions produce in us, unrivalled by any other, not least his “Jan 2012 Session”.

However, in Zach’s latest, Vol. 24 in his monthly “House Sessions” series, we have one such podcast that not only pitches perfectly against Mr Pitron’s, but did, for a couple of days, topple that superb Steve set of sounds, hence why it has made it to our “Podcast of The Week” choice. But the reasons extend further than that, as in this latest Burns beats bonanza, we have a collection of tunes that both inspire & energise us, his decision to depart from the norm this month & devote this delightful dance-tastic delectation to his weekly residency within Popcorn’s Departure Lounge, bearing brilliant fruit with lashings of vocals intermixed with his trademark funky beats, while within this magnificent 75 minute mix, we have crowned both our new Burns/DM anthem of the year in Upjeet’s remix of Etienne Ozborne’s “Been A Long Time”  but have also found the new 2012 replacement for the truly towering Rony Seilkaly track “Take Me Higher” in the emotionally enthralling “Another Day” from the captivating composition camp that is James Talk & Ridney.

But with Zach having chosen plenty more vocal crowd pleasures within this production, familiar names that he continues to bank on including our Italian stallion Pagano, the resplendence of Ralphi Rosario & the superb Stefano Noferini, as well as notable names & artists such as Ian Carey, Lisa Millett, Abigail Bailey & David Penn, this composition is crammed with pedigree from spectacular start to fabulous finish. Indeed, we have found it immensely difficult to dislike any track on what is undoubtedly Zach most outstandingly brilliant & best to date, pretty much sealing the deal on our recommendation that it is an essential must to your collection, downloading mere minutes away at direct link http://djburns.podomatic.com/entry/2012-07-04T11_32_41-07_00, while Mr Burns has shared a selection of the total tack listing via his Beatport chart at http://www.beatport.com/chart/house-sessions-24-july-2012/92806, where, should you so wish, you can grab the track that floats your own boat & at the same time support the artists & music producers that have helped propel this podcast into our number two slot of 2012.

So, with the awesome accomplishment, not only has Zach provided further proof that his a every measure for the material that is our premier protégé player position, but he proves that, through the captivating compilation creation, music most definitely is the answer. (DISCO MATT)
