Re-Lighting Fire

We have always said that six weeks can be a long time when submerged in the comings & goings within the capitals clubbing scene, although the six weeks that Fire has been closed seems to have literally flown by, our consumption of Orange at Electric, followed by WE Disco at The Coronet, those two added to a double whammy of brilliant Beyond at its best, in some ways seeing us hardly miss Fire, we even unable to sample the switch of clubs like Gravity, A:M & Later to temporary home, Factory. However, while the change hasn’t seemingly disrupted The Orange Group’s dance diary in any way, there is no escaping the fact that the team, along with many of its ardent fans & followers are very much looking forward to seeing the doors of their first & natural home swinging open again.

Re-Opened With A Bang

Yet, as seems to be the case these days (senile dementia must be setting in!) we have been caught napping, or as is more accurately the case, had our thoughts devoted elsewhere, as Fire actually re-opens tonight, Thursday 15th Dec, (well to be accurate at 1 a.m. Friday 16th) and with a pretty big reason too, but more on that in a moment, the six week mandatory closure period as part of the licence renewal arrangements running their course by midnight tonight, or as we prefer to call it, zero o’clock. So, as you can imagine, The Orange Group team are very much in celebratory mood, all those brands we mentioned, returning home after their short vacation across Vauxhall, Saturday very much the focus of this celebration, as the team roll out their “Welcome Home” grand re-opening pyre party, while Orange, the club that started the whole Fire show back in 2001, returns with its “Keep Calm & Orange On” on Sunday, that after Later earlier on in the day and A:M makes its mark this Saturday morning with their “Xmas Headliners” party.

Seventh Heaven Happening

Now, while we will be covering A:M, the “Welcome Home” party & Orange in a separate Weekend Extra Bites special post coming up, it is tonight that gets our Newsflash Short Shout here, as Gravity not just marks the re-opening of Fire, but also celebrates its 7th birthday with two very special guest D.J.’s joining one of Gravity’s most long standing residents. First of the special guests is Super Swede (our affectionate term for him) Per Q.X., who makes a welcome return to the Fire decks, having graced Later as a resident back in the halcyon days, 2004/5/6 & was responsible for one of the most memorable NYD afternoons we have had in Fire ever, so should once again come up with the goods for this birthday bash for sure. The other guest in international playboy D.J. Paul Heron, who makes a pretty rare London appearance, his schedule of late having taken him right across Europe, although with concentrations on Berlin (for good reason), but whenever he is back in the capital, you can find him behind the Vauxhall decks here & there, Later, A:M and now Gravity part of his substantial club playlist. And that longstanding resident that completes the birthday picture id The Oli and we could go on & on listings his accolades but in labelling him as our second Steve Pitron, says it all, so a sure fire (no pun intended) to make it to this 7th birthday bash, more info out at http://facebook.com/events/287639241272446/.

So, with T minus five hours to go until Fire’s doors re-open and then with plenty to offer this weekend & beyond, we hope this new phase in the venues colourful history will mark one of positivity across a scene that is seemingly struggling at the moment, our upcoming report, “All I Want For Christmas” hitting on some of the challenges ahead for Fire & plenty of other bars, clubs, & businesses in the capital, while we hope that the re-opening of this iconic venue will be embraced by a community of club promoters & clubbers alike that should be embracing & supporting this truly dynamically diverse scene we find ourselves within, rather than committing it to the clubbing cemetery with the crushing tactics that have been all too evident in recent times. About discomatt

The History........................................................Created in 2008 after a short period of blogging under his real name, the pseudonym, “Disco Matt”, was born on the back of a reputation for being London’s original party boy having partied and clubbed across the London gay scene since in mid 1990’s.........................................................Through his series of blogs via individual blogging pages which soon morphed into a full blown website (http://discomatt.com), Disco Matt established himself as an independent journalist come columnist who quickly gained a reputation for supporting & promoting one of the world’s most prolific clubbing scenes. He previewed, reviewed & recommended London gay clubs, as well as the diverse gay/metrosexual London club/bar culture, linking to & reviewing the scene top D.J.’s and generally covering the gay scene including international gay events....................................................Regularly reporting on the top events across the scene, Disco Matt’s reviews, over the years, developed a strong following, not just by clubbers, D.J’s, promoters, music producers & scene faces, but people far and wide that were looking for an insight to the incredible scene that was London. He also previewed upcoming events that signalled, either a major change or update of existing clubs, new ventures on the gAylist/metrosexual scene, or where he considered events that deserved more comprehensive coverage to that provided in other posts.............................................However, having pretty much reached the top of his game in his chosen specific field, due to a number of personal predicaments, challenges & changes in his life priorities, Disco Matt parked his writing and operation in February 2014. While the burning desire to continue remained, what this much needed period of inactivity did provide was the time & space to re-think & re-focus his activities on a broader spectrum of media and entertainment............................................................So, following this long two year lay-off, he built up the foundations for this diversification into the areas of film, theatre, radio & television where his reviewing, recommending & reporting was to be replicated & resurrected, also pointing his promotions through more visuals & video's linked to all these areas along with his core activities and passions ................................................................................The Present....................................After another (shorter) period of lay-off from mid 2016, a life changing event reignited his passion and early into 2017, Disco Matt has delivered on his promise for a new, more modern look to his website, shedding the old & tired skin in favour of something far more in keeping with the times and with his blogging roots. And he has waived a fond farewell to his clubbing days, this having also been ditched from his site & activity, rather now just focussing on the genres of film, theatre, radio, television, video and of course, music, in so doing, aiming to broaden his appeal to a much wider audience interested in the latest most cutting edge areas of media & entertainment.............................................................................His aim is to be highly regarded across the industry for his writing in these fields and ultimately become a full time critic in film &/or theatre.
