Hardly a day since we completed a full on review reflection and devotion to this club brand and its “Doesn’t Get Better Than This” star, Steve Pitron, we find ourselves once again singing the praises of Beyond, well at least giving it a hearty recommendation, not that it needs it really, as such is the popularity of this amazing afterhours, that it has become pretty much a foregone conclusion that it will be swarming with people come 9 a.m. Sunday morning. Mind you, by that time this specially extended event will have been going a good nine hours (yes you heard it right), as our title & the label of this latest Beyond bash, “Midnight”, hints towards, it doing exactly what it say’s on the packet (becoming a stock phrase of ours), it now not taking a rocket scientist to realise that proceedings kick off this Sunday (10th April) at midnight, well that’s midnight Saturday if you know what we mean, meaning that rather than the usual six or seven hours, Beyond will be running for a full twelve hours of heaven.

So why the extension and what will be going down? Well, casting our minds back to the beginning of the year, Beyond was very much in the limelight (when isn’t it?!?!) as the results of the always anticipated SeenQueen “Your Disco Needs You” club poll fanfared this brilliant brand scooping best weekly, as well as best overall club in the SQ 2010 standings, a coveted position & prize indeed, but something that they richly deserved, following on from similar successes the previous two years. However, despite the somewhat muted celebrations as a result, the team behind the brand were smarting once again last week, when, collectively, The Orange Group (including related individuals) once again hit the big time with awards a-plenty, Beyond winning best weekly and The Orange Group’s adopted outing in London, WE party also featuring, as well as prizes for group connected D.J.’s Steve Pitron (no surprise & well deserved), Hifi Sean & DouGuim plus colourful hostess Chrissy Darling, the Beyond connection very much represented by them. Therefore, with the Beyond trophy cabinet overfilling, the time was nigh for celebrating, but also thanking the clubbing public for voting, not just in the Boyz awards (as the press release indicates), but in the SeenQueen poll too.

As a result, Beyond “Midnight” was born, as we have already said, a twelve hour extravaganza laid on by promoter Jonny Marsh & his terrific team (some cogs missing mind you) to, let’s quote them shall we, “…celebrate the slew (is six a slew) of awards…”, they, or should we say Jonny Marsh adding  “…as a special thank you to everyone that votes, all those arriving within the first hour will get in for the concession price…” how generous!!!, he going to say, “….on the stroke of midnight, the doors open, ushering you into a multi-roomed clubbing complex with more lasers, lighting, production and pyrotechnics than anywhere else, plus fierce hosts, hot & sexy dancers and of course the best DJ line up anywhere in London…” quite a statement. But it doesn’t stop there, as Jonny explains, “…kick off your night in the Terrace Bar with Beyond resident stars playing uplifting bats to get the party started. Then enter the Future House Chapel with Hifi Sean, Paul Christian & guests keeping it deep & techy. And when the Main Room opens, the atmosphere will be fever pitch as the Beyond dream team residents including Steve Pitron, Mikey D and Paul Heron take to the decks…”

Well, what can we say?!?!? Generally from experience the extended Beyond’s can be a little of a storm in a tea cup, although given the fact that there is NO other major club night on across London’s so called gAylist scene, we highly suspect that most of the crowd that do the Vauxhall circuit will land on Area at some stage during the early hours (midnight to 3 a.m.). That said, with the weather forecast looking pretty good, the thick end of the London wedge will be making the most of the first decent bit of warm sunshine the city has had this year, so may be later starters than the Beyond organisers will be hoping for. Add to that, twelve hours in any club is quite a long time, so expect a chunk of people to pace themselves, many arriving for their favourite D.J.’s and more when the main room opens, which, judging by the line up won’t be until 5 or 6 a.m. As for the “…clubbing complex….”, the “…fierce hosts…” and the “…hot & sexy dancers…”, well we will leave up to you to decide on those, afterall it is Area & Vauxhall we are talking about here. Plus, the concession entry offer & only for the first hour, doesn’t seem much of “…a special thank you…”, especially that so many support the club week in week out (that’s 52 times a year), all to get a one-off £8 discount, whoopee doo.

So, having said our piece over the devil in to publicity detail, what is the all important detail on this Beyond “Midnight” spectacular? Well, as we have said (ooh twice now), this is a twelve hour extravaganza, doors opening at midnight on Saturday (9th Apr) and the event running through until 12 a.m Sunday (10th). Entry for those with an advance ticket is £12 , available either online at http://clubtickets.com or via outlets in Soho, Prowler, Clone Zone, Rupert St & whatever the replacement for DV8 is called, while more will be available on the door at although at £20. So, in terms of that concession, it’s the advance ticket price entry of £12, but remember, you need to be there before 1 a.m. folks! The other option is to pop along to the “official” pre-party at Lo-Profile, where Beyond boys old & new Hugh Stevenson & Paul Heron will be the music maestro’s and there you can grab special £10 vouchers from Tom Fuller’s (we would say he is the “…fierce host…”, well Chrissy too) boys.

Right, so enough said, apart from the fact that, in our opinion and avoiding all the hype of the press release, this should be a good one (as always), possibly a great one, we planning to be in our spot in time for Mr Pitron (currently expected about 6 ish), although we may soak up a bit of Hifi Sean first as we love to dance under his music mirrorball of happiness. Plus, as of going to press we are awaiting the full D.J. line up, so as soon as it comes through we will share it with you in an Extra Bites post. However, we will certainly be soaking up a good slice of Beyond come Sunday morning and suggest you should too, leaving us to simply say, Go There! Be There! (DISCO MATT)

About discomatt

The History........................................................Created in 2008 after a short period of blogging under his real name, the pseudonym, “Disco Matt”, was born on the back of a reputation for being London’s original party boy having partied and clubbed across the London gay scene since in mid 1990’s.........................................................Through his series of blogs via individual blogging pages which soon morphed into a full blown website (http://discomatt.com), Disco Matt established himself as an independent journalist come columnist who quickly gained a reputation for supporting & promoting one of the world’s most prolific clubbing scenes. He previewed, reviewed & recommended London gay clubs, as well as the diverse gay/metrosexual London club/bar culture, linking to & reviewing the scene top D.J.’s and generally covering the gay scene including international gay events....................................................Regularly reporting on the top events across the scene, Disco Matt’s reviews, over the years, developed a strong following, not just by clubbers, D.J’s, promoters, music producers & scene faces, but people far and wide that were looking for an insight to the incredible scene that was London. He also previewed upcoming events that signalled, either a major change or update of existing clubs, new ventures on the gAylist/metrosexual scene, or where he considered events that deserved more comprehensive coverage to that provided in other posts.............................................However, having pretty much reached the top of his game in his chosen specific field, due to a number of personal predicaments, challenges & changes in his life priorities, Disco Matt parked his writing and operation in February 2014. While the burning desire to continue remained, what this much needed period of inactivity did provide was the time & space to re-think & re-focus his activities on a broader spectrum of media and entertainment............................................................So, following this long two year lay-off, he built up the foundations for this diversification into the areas of film, theatre, radio & television where his reviewing, recommending & reporting was to be replicated & resurrected, also pointing his promotions through more visuals & video's linked to all these areas along with his core activities and passions ................................................................................The Present....................................After another (shorter) period of lay-off from mid 2016, a life changing event reignited his passion and early into 2017, Disco Matt has delivered on his promise for a new, more modern look to his website, shedding the old & tired skin in favour of something far more in keeping with the times and with his blogging roots. And he has waived a fond farewell to his clubbing days, this having also been ditched from his site & activity, rather now just focussing on the genres of film, theatre, radio, television, video and of course, music, in so doing, aiming to broaden his appeal to a much wider audience interested in the latest most cutting edge areas of media & entertainment.............................................................................His aim is to be highly regarded across the industry for his writing in these fields and ultimately become a full time critic in film &/or theatre.
