Summer Starts Sunday

Not another post devoted to this amazing afterhours we hear you cry!, but when it comes to beyond, we simply cannot help ourselves, as for us, there is no other club that means quite as much as this one does. We have it securing our keys, we choose it as our computer combination, but moreover our working week is full of sounds inspired by the club & our weekend, more often than not leads to or is dominated by its brilliance. So, it therefore comes as no surprise that, of all the clubs we have reported on in our time, Beyond far outstrips any other, whether it be by preview, by review, by report or by, in this case recommends posts. Plus given the number of Beyond parties we have attended, not just at its current home Area, but its previous place Colosseum, but also at outside events & when it has been on tour, Brighton a particular fabulous feature. And talking of tours, Beyond is about to embark on a summer full of trips far & wide, the first being tomorrow night (Sat 4th June) when Scream in Paris feel the fantastic force of this breathtaking brand, while other highlights include their inclusion in the La Demence cruise & the Xlsior Festival in Mykonos, among a host of other European appearances.

Beyond On The Radio

But it is back here in London and Sunday (5th June) that we are concentrating on, as Beyond enters its summer season, this weekend also being the first in the meteorological summer calendar, so all timed to perfection. But before we hone down on what to expect from this launch, the really exciting news is a launch of a slightly different kind, as Beyond has teamed up with Gaydar radio to create the ultimate afterhours show, a seven hour spectacular showcasing a selection of sets recorded live from either the previous week’s Beyond in London, or from the host of international gigs that make up the Beyond world tour this summer. Running from midnight every Saturday through till 7 a.m. each Sunday morning for the whole of the summer, in an interview with Boyz magazine, promoter Jonny Marsh was reported as saying “…each week we’ll be recording the best sets of the night at Beyond, which will be compiled into a special radio show over a whopping seven hours. It’s the perfect was to get in the party mood before heading to Beyond each week…” he further adding of the first show which beams out next weekend “…it will be the Beyond dream team residents including  Steve Pitron, The Sharp Boys & Gonzalo Rivas…”. So, if its a case of warming up or catching up, Gaydar radio is the place to be each Saturday night/Sunday morning to get your fix of Beyond before Beyond, by tuning in either online by going to http://gaydarradio.com or via digital radio DAB frequency 11B.

Brilliant Beyond Boys

So to the summer season launch, which as we said, takes place this Sunday (5th June) at Area in Vauxhall and while the team are very much looking forward, there are some elements from the past that have been re-introduced to the fray, namely the gorgeous Naomi Ruiz who will head up a new hosting team that also includes the lovely Ben Kaye, Beyond regular & glamour puss Altina Ha, as well as Room Service’s, the simply superb J.J., all four taking their turns to manage the various elements that make up this intrinsic part of the club’s operation & something that has been sorely missing inside rather than outside the club in recent times. And the good news continues as the consolidation of those Beyond dream team residents will be a feature of the whole summer, Steve Pitron, The Sharp Boys, Gonzalo Rivas & Paul Heron very much main room men, while Hifi Sean, Paul Christian & D’Johnny will rule the waves in The Chapel room, the newly named “Classix Terrace”, the domain of Jamie Head, The Oli & Fat Tony. But with news that Mikey D will also be back to Beyond where he belongs, we couldn’t be happier, this added to by queen of the lighting scene, Smalls, who will be in her rightful place each & every week from now on, not to mention the addition of the amazing dancer La Menor to the Elektra Paris Beyond pack.

Summer Sizzler

So, come Sunday & with Steve Pitron starting pumping proceedings in Beyond’s main room, it will take wild horses to keep us away from our spot for this “Summer Season Launch” sizzler, so if you see us then do come & say hi, but make sure you “Go There! Be There!” (DISCO MATT)

About discomatt

The History........................................................Created in 2008 after a short period of blogging under his real name, the pseudonym, “Disco Matt”, was born on the back of a reputation for being London’s original party boy having partied and clubbed across the London gay scene since in mid 1990’s.........................................................Through his series of blogs via individual blogging pages which soon morphed into a full blown website (http://discomatt.com), Disco Matt established himself as an independent journalist come columnist who quickly gained a reputation for supporting & promoting one of the world’s most prolific clubbing scenes. He previewed, reviewed & recommended London gay clubs, as well as the diverse gay/metrosexual London club/bar culture, linking to & reviewing the scene top D.J.’s and generally covering the gay scene including international gay events....................................................Regularly reporting on the top events across the scene, Disco Matt’s reviews, over the years, developed a strong following, not just by clubbers, D.J’s, promoters, music producers & scene faces, but people far and wide that were looking for an insight to the incredible scene that was London. He also previewed upcoming events that signalled, either a major change or update of existing clubs, new ventures on the gAylist/metrosexual scene, or where he considered events that deserved more comprehensive coverage to that provided in other posts.............................................However, having pretty much reached the top of his game in his chosen specific field, due to a number of personal predicaments, challenges & changes in his life priorities, Disco Matt parked his writing and operation in February 2014. While the burning desire to continue remained, what this much needed period of inactivity did provide was the time & space to re-think & re-focus his activities on a broader spectrum of media and entertainment............................................................So, following this long two year lay-off, he built up the foundations for this diversification into the areas of film, theatre, radio & television where his reviewing, recommending & reporting was to be replicated & resurrected, also pointing his promotions through more visuals & video's linked to all these areas along with his core activities and passions ................................................................................The Present....................................After another (shorter) period of lay-off from mid 2016, a life changing event reignited his passion and early into 2017, Disco Matt has delivered on his promise for a new, more modern look to his website, shedding the old & tired skin in favour of something far more in keeping with the times and with his blogging roots. And he has waived a fond farewell to his clubbing days, this having also been ditched from his site & activity, rather now just focussing on the genres of film, theatre, radio, television, video and of course, music, in so doing, aiming to broaden his appeal to a much wider audience interested in the latest most cutting edge areas of media & entertainment.............................................................................His aim is to be highly regarded across the industry for his writing in these fields and ultimately become a full time critic in film &/or theatre.
