With a full four day festival of forays to fulfil, we hone in on two of the terrific turns in the this magnificent Matinee multiple of meets, two of its shining stars headlining the heavyweight happenings, towering talent Taiko Tikaro steering the “Starship” show this Saturday, while the fantastic Hector Fonseca & masterful Javier Medina bang out the beats at “Boom” on Sunday, we also we sharing some of their sounds in this special feature.

Having seemingly been in a sedate slumber post summer slumber for the last few years, 2013 has seen one of the globe’s giants make a significant splash on the worldwide scene, Matinee stoking a head of steam that has seen a string of spectacular showings in France, Gran Canaria, Italy, & Switzerland as well as right here in London, while with no less six showings at home in Spain including their Barcelona backyard and it is pretty clear that this brilliant brand has been cooking on plenty of pre-summer season gatherings gas. But while all that is impressive enough, the massive Matinee touring machine is about to go galactic as it lands on Las Vegas for a four day festival of forays, no less than seven separate spectacle’s showcasing the strengths of this Spanish superclub stateside, pool parties part of the schedule while four night-time events from “Pump” on Friday to “Ovah” on Monday as well as two afterparties, including Beyond on the Sunday morning. However, it is both “Starship” on Saturday & “Boom” on Sunday that we are focussing on, not least that Matinee all-star resident D.J.’s Taito Tikaro & Javier Medina are flown in to headline the two respective events, adding wonderful musical weight to an already impressive line-up of deck meisters, including one of the scene’s biggest names, Hector Fonseca who plays alongside Javier in what will be an NYC New Year style reunion for them.

But we digress, so back to the task in hand and to Saturday’s “Starship” event first, a party theme that first saw the showing light of day here in London back in February, the team sure to replicate the stunning stage shows, although in a much larger & better suited venue in Las Vegas, local D.J.’s Grind & Nina Flowers joined by Spanish resident superstar Taito Tikaro, while with over thirty Matinee dancers, plus prolific P.A. Nikki Williams, the touring Revolution team have very much weaved their magic, this headline happening sure to knock the socks of the similar showing here in the capital. And with the towering talent that is Taito Tikaro, the music will be absolutely top draw, he no doubt pulling out many of his crowd pleasing favourites, as well as the new 2K13 release of “Shine On Me”, which is storming dancefloors across the globe right now, this and his whole collection of recent releases well worth a visit at https://soundcloud.com/taitotikaro. Then we move to Sunday and to “Boom”, for some the more attractive of the two, not least that, as we mentioned above the Matinee team have drafted in their latest superstar D.J., Javier Medina to headline along with one of the biggest names on the clubbing circuit, NYC’s own hector Fonseca, who is no stranger to the Matinee decks, having played for the brand across America & over at the huge Circuit Festival in Matinee’s own backyard, Barcelona. And while we have not yet been fortunate enough to see him play, having missed out on a rare trip of his to London a couple of months ago, at least we can sink into his sounds at https://soundcloud.com/hector-fonseca-music/sets/, both his mash-up’s & official remixes sets our favourites, his live showing at “Boom” certainly set fair to shake the room. As for Javier, re-connecting & playing with Mr Foncesa, as he did in New York on NYD will be a thrill, Mr Medina’s set sure to stand up to his counterpart’s  in a contrasting sort of way, as our Barca boy’s beats are much more tribal & techno tinted these days, he being the co-founder of alternative tech/techno label, Classroom Records, while a flavour of what to expect from his set at “Boom” can be found in his “Back On My Mind” mix at https://soundcloud.com/javier-medina/black-on-my-mind. And terms of “Boom” itself, expect the full magnificent Matinee make-over while NYC based D.J. Theresa makes it a fabulous threesome of the Spanish superclubs residents playing at this pulsating party, her sprecially recorded mix pretty mighty & out now at https://soundcloud.com/djtheresa/dj-theresa-matinee-vegas-2013.

So, if you find yourselves in Las Vegas this weekend, then you could do far worse than breaking an entry into either or (or both) of these exceptional events, further details & information available by clicking on https://.facebook.com/matineevegas and while we may have focused on just two events here, the whole festival get our full recommendation thumbs up as a four dream of a dance celebration. About discomatt

The History........................................................Created in 2008 after a short period of blogging under his real name, the pseudonym, “Disco Matt”, was born on the back of a reputation for being London’s original party boy having partied and clubbed across the London gay scene since in mid 1990’s.........................................................Through his series of blogs via individual blogging pages which soon morphed into a full blown website (http://discomatt.com), Disco Matt established himself as an independent journalist come columnist who quickly gained a reputation for supporting & promoting one of the world’s most prolific clubbing scenes. He previewed, reviewed & recommended London gay clubs, as well as the diverse gay/metrosexual London club/bar culture, linking to & reviewing the scene top D.J.’s and generally covering the gay scene including international gay events....................................................Regularly reporting on the top events across the scene, Disco Matt’s reviews, over the years, developed a strong following, not just by clubbers, D.J’s, promoters, music producers & scene faces, but people far and wide that were looking for an insight to the incredible scene that was London. He also previewed upcoming events that signalled, either a major change or update of existing clubs, new ventures on the gAylist/metrosexual scene, or where he considered events that deserved more comprehensive coverage to that provided in other posts.............................................However, having pretty much reached the top of his game in his chosen specific field, due to a number of personal predicaments, challenges & changes in his life priorities, Disco Matt parked his writing and operation in February 2014. While the burning desire to continue remained, what this much needed period of inactivity did provide was the time & space to re-think & re-focus his activities on a broader spectrum of media and entertainment............................................................So, following this long two year lay-off, he built up the foundations for this diversification into the areas of film, theatre, radio & television where his reviewing, recommending & reporting was to be replicated & resurrected, also pointing his promotions through more visuals & video's linked to all these areas along with his core activities and passions ................................................................................The Present....................................After another (shorter) period of lay-off from mid 2016, a life changing event reignited his passion and early into 2017, Disco Matt has delivered on his promise for a new, more modern look to his website, shedding the old & tired skin in favour of something far more in keeping with the times and with his blogging roots. And he has waived a fond farewell to his clubbing days, this having also been ditched from his site & activity, rather now just focussing on the genres of film, theatre, radio, television, video and of course, music, in so doing, aiming to broaden his appeal to a much wider audience interested in the latest most cutting edge areas of media & entertainment.............................................................................His aim is to be highly regarded across the industry for his writing in these fields and ultimately become a full time critic in film &/or theatre.
