Bigger Is Better

In any given weekend there is always one club that pretty much guarantees a reasonable turnout, even when there isn’t much else on to feed it, such is its popularity. Plus there has been a penchant for Sunday morning shindigs since the days of Trade and we have always loved that feeling of decadence & naughtiness that comes with clubbing when the vast majority of the rest of the world are either still tucked up in bed or going about the mundane normalities of life. But when a Bank Holiday lands, it seems that the conformist guard is well & truly dropped, people taking the opportunity to let their hair down & push the boundaries more than they would on a regular weekend. So, as a result the Sunday morning slot becomes a favourite, some partying on room the night (or nights) before, while for others, it’s the start of their clubbing cavorting. Yet, whichever camp you fall into, you can pretty much expect of roadblock of revellers descending on, in this case Vauxhall and the awesome afterhours that is Beyond.

With the last two bank holiday’s at the end of April & the beginning of May proving the fact that Beyond remains a popular choice on these extended weekends, home venue Area packed to the rafters with revellers on both occasions, rising thought to the need for additional capacity to cope with the extra clubbing crowd that is sure to swarm the scene this coming Spring break. So, as a result the team behind our most favourite club of all time, decided it was time to expand the Beyond boundaries a bit, sizing up the offer, not just by the level of D.J. talent, not just by the added attraction of P.A. performances, but by the literal square footage. However, with the option of spreading into the former Crash no longer at their disposal, the only other way was to expand on the opposite side, creating a historical link up with Barcode and, in the process, breaking down some of boundaries that had existed during the reign of the bars previous top management.

With the Barcode alliance a signed & sealed deal, Beyond “Supersize” became very much became a reality and this coming Sunday (29th May) will see this compelling combination play out for the clubbing community, the joining of forces of two of Vauxhalls most prolific venues, the ideal antidote to the roadblock issues of Beyond bank holidays of old. So, how will this venue combination work? Well, having spoken to the man in the know, Tom Fuller, this will be the deal. Whilst there is a link between the two towards the bottom end of Area’s main room, Tom has advised us that is cannot be used, so there will be no link to Barcode from within Beyond. However, with the expanse of outside space extending to both Area & Barcode opened up, this will make for a supersized alfresco space, with access to both sides (that is Area & Barcode) gained through their traditional entrances. Initial entry to this  Beyond “Supersize” event will be controlled from one point through Area’s Embankment Bar, and for those of you attending Barcode beforehand, be aware that they will be closing in advance of the 6 a.m. Beyond start, so as to pave the way for this brilliant binding of the two brands.

So that kind of deals with the logistics of this “Supersize” splendour kind of laid out, what can you expect in terms of musical entertainment? Well, the usual three rooms will be expanded into five; the usual D.J. compliment increased accordingly, a massive 18 on duty across this super sized event. Now, naturally you can expect all the Beyond superstar residents, Steve Pitron, Mikey D, Jamie Head, The Sharp Boys, Gonzalo Rivas, Hifi Sean, Paul Christian, Fat Tony, The Oli & D’Johnny, but additional names in the frame include Oliver M, Jonny M (will they be the M&M’s?!?!) David Jimenez, Saki, DougUim, Leandro Kloppel, plus special guest D.J., Xlsior’s GSP (must be short for something we guess), Beyond teaming up with this Mykonos festival at the end of August, the music completely top draw & a surprise couple of “back-to-back” sessions up their sleeves (could be Steve & Mikey, David & D’Johnny, Oliver & Jonny (has to be the M&M’s!!) as well as some other surprise guests spinning some sounds, the choice of where to be in either Area or Barcode will be very difficult indeed. And, with Xlsior very much present for this “Supersize” party, expect the Greek influence, which will go for the visuals as well as the drop dead gorgeous dancers, new additions to the Beyond team having caught our eyes over the last couple of events & the beautiful Naomi back in the fold too. Plus, keep your eyes peeled the  Xlsoir boys who will tell you all about winning free festival passes, while Area’s main room stage will be in full use, as will a number of additions next door in Barcode. Then if all that isn’t enough, the queen of the lighting scene is back, so Smalls will be waving her magical wand on the whole expanse of this “Supersize” party, the pyrotechnics & effects better than ever for sure. Add to that, the organisational might that includes Tom Fuller & his merry men, Philippe & of course, hostess Chrissy Darling and this Beyond will have it all, so simply cannot be missed!

"The Big Ticket" Have You Got Yours?

Now to the all important detail and this Beyond “Supersize” event takes place this coming spring bank holiday Sunday at Area & Barcode in Vauxhall, doors (remember the Area Embankment entrance only) opening at 6 a.m. & this megaclub running through until an extended 2 p.m.. Advance tickets we suspect are a must and can be grabbed online at http://clubtickets.com or by popping into Prowler, Clone Zone, 50, or Rupert Street in Soho and Barcode in Vauxhall, priced at £15. However, if you fancy making your weekend, like Beyond, “Supersize”, why not go for the big ticket option, £40 getting you access to WE “Candy”, As One & (naturally) Beyond,  the early bird £30 options having gone, but the regular ones still available at http://clubtickets.com/gb/2011-05/28/the-big-ticket. Plus, special discount entry will be available for Later, which takes place at Fire, straight after Beyond, so keep your eyes peeled for those.

So, as the official blurb quite rightly say’s, it seems that this coming weekend, “…all roads lead to Beyond…” and with SuperMartXe, WE “Candy” & all the other parties around town bowing out before this “Supersize” event kicks off, expect the expanded space to be packed & pumping. Naturally we will be there on “terrabite” review duty, but will also be “nibble sized review tweeting”, which you can catch at http://twitter.com/discomatt, both from our usual spot & around this super sized location, so if you see us, come say hi, but make sure you “Go There! Be There! (DISCO MATT)owever, if you fancy making aH

About discomatt

The History........................................................Created in 2008 after a short period of blogging under his real name, the pseudonym, “Disco Matt”, was born on the back of a reputation for being London’s original party boy having partied and clubbed across the London gay scene since in mid 1990’s.........................................................Through his series of blogs via individual blogging pages which soon morphed into a full blown website (http://discomatt.com), Disco Matt established himself as an independent journalist come columnist who quickly gained a reputation for supporting & promoting one of the world’s most prolific clubbing scenes. He previewed, reviewed & recommended London gay clubs, as well as the diverse gay/metrosexual London club/bar culture, linking to & reviewing the scene top D.J.’s and generally covering the gay scene including international gay events....................................................Regularly reporting on the top events across the scene, Disco Matt’s reviews, over the years, developed a strong following, not just by clubbers, D.J’s, promoters, music producers & scene faces, but people far and wide that were looking for an insight to the incredible scene that was London. He also previewed upcoming events that signalled, either a major change or update of existing clubs, new ventures on the gAylist/metrosexual scene, or where he considered events that deserved more comprehensive coverage to that provided in other posts.............................................However, having pretty much reached the top of his game in his chosen specific field, due to a number of personal predicaments, challenges & changes in his life priorities, Disco Matt parked his writing and operation in February 2014. While the burning desire to continue remained, what this much needed period of inactivity did provide was the time & space to re-think & re-focus his activities on a broader spectrum of media and entertainment............................................................So, following this long two year lay-off, he built up the foundations for this diversification into the areas of film, theatre, radio & television where his reviewing, recommending & reporting was to be replicated & resurrected, also pointing his promotions through more visuals & video's linked to all these areas along with his core activities and passions ................................................................................The Present....................................After another (shorter) period of lay-off from mid 2016, a life changing event reignited his passion and early into 2017, Disco Matt has delivered on his promise for a new, more modern look to his website, shedding the old & tired skin in favour of something far more in keeping with the times and with his blogging roots. And he has waived a fond farewell to his clubbing days, this having also been ditched from his site & activity, rather now just focussing on the genres of film, theatre, radio, television, video and of course, music, in so doing, aiming to broaden his appeal to a much wider audience interested in the latest most cutting edge areas of media & entertainment.............................................................................His aim is to be highly regarded across the industry for his writing in these fields and ultimately become a full time critic in film &/or theatre.
