To have Jamie jamming is joyful enough, but to have him joined by the magnificent Mikey is simply marvellous, tonight (Sat 22nd Dec) seeing Head n Dower going back-to-back in a special set for ClubNation that will set the festive frolicking season off in scintillating style, meaning it simply had to be our “Pick Of The Day”, details on the club a banner selection away opposite or an image click below, while we deliver a special D.J. focus on these to terrific talents beneath.
When two marvellous music makers join forces to wave their combined mixing magical wand, it certainly makes for an epic evening of superb sounds, ClubNation have spearheaded the so called back-to-back set showings that have seen familiar formations between Pitron & Sanna and Evans & Heron, while more unconventional collaborations such as English & Nicholls and Hifi Sean & Harris place ClubNation at the forefront of back-to-back combo clubbing, the two stars of the show tonight (Sat 22nd Dec) an exemplary example of this, Head & Dower, better known on the scene as Jamie Head & Mikey D making their second ClubNation appearance together after their outstanding set showing in October. And while their resplendent reputation speaks volumes of their own, given how this dynamic duo have formed a fabulous playing partnership during 2012, we thought it only right & proper to focus on these two terrific talents & their music making, sharing both personal experiences of both boys that we are privileged to call friends but are equally privileged to have witnessed so many scintillating sets. So sharing this along with a picture of Lo-Profile’s part in these incredible individuals careers behind the decks, we aim to cement our choice for this ClubNation night as our “Pick of The Day”, while we will also deliver some of the dinky detail on what is surely a meet that will set the festive frolicking season off in scintillating style.
So to Jamie Head first and in him we find a D.J. with a wealth of both talent & experience that has seen him play at a whole host of clubbing brands & events across the capitals circuit, the list extending to the likes of A:M, As One, Beyond, Gravity, Horizon, Juicy, Later, Matinee, Orange, Trade & WE Party, while our memories of the man & his music stretch back to the colossal & captivating days of Crash when he played a prolific part in the second space proceedings with a superb string of set showings that very much sowed the seeds of his subsequent success. Yet, for his immense talents, Jamie has been pretty satisfied with his London lot, although we cannot contain the view that he could & should be destined for much more prominent international prizes, his amazing ability to switch genres, from uplifting soulful house to full on tech, tribal & progressive, as well as his ability to channel his choices to suit both the straight & gay clubbing crowds. However, all that said, we are pretty happy that Jamie continues to play at the likes of beyond, Later, A:M, WE & Lo-Profile, as we get the chance to savour his super sets pretty often, as we occasionally do his rare but well worth waiting for mixes via his Podomatic page, http://jamiehead2.podomatic.com/ &/or his Soundcloud site, https://soundcloud.com/jamie-head, his latest devotion to club night “D.J.’s At Work” a deep house dream must to your collection and not a million miles from what he will be playing at ClubNation tonight.
To Mikey D now and another product of the Crash days (albeit the very latter ones) who has followed a similar path to Jamie, having starred form many of the Orange Nation (formerly Orange Group) family of club brands, Later one, while Onyx was another, although without doubt is best known for his Beyond residencies, a captivating collection of set showings a massive feature between 2008 & 2011, while other club appearances have included Room Service, PLAY>TIME & Matinee. However, with a hands full day time occupation working as Ministry of Sound’s chief IT expert, Mikey took time out of his regular Beyond appearances in the latter part of 2011 & for the best part of this year, although we were pleased as punch to see him back behind this awesome afterhours’ decks recently, while we have been lucky to savour a selection of superb sets, which includes his unforgettable & prolific performance at PLAY>TIME in March when he stepped into the vacation absent shoes of Steve Pitron. However, like Jamie, we have had to be patient on the podcast production front, although Mikey very much came up trumps in October with his heavenly “House Music All Night Long” compilation which created a “Podcast of The Week” 2012 precedent, holding the slot for three successive weeks, such was the magnificent magnitude of this marvellous mix, which you can still grab at http://mikeyd.podomatic.com/, he sure to roll out a couple of selections from here during his showing at ClubNation.
So, given the similarities in these two terrific talents style of sounds, plus the fact that they have followed similar club partying paths throughout their careers behind the decks, it is clear that they gel together as a duo, ClubNation very much the vehicle for this formed partnership and while, historically, Mikey has performed back-to-back with Steve Pitron, particularly at Beyond, it seems that 2012 has very much mixed up the marriages of musical minds, Steve having played with Jamie Head on quite a few occasions, the threesome not only really good friends, but both Jamie & Mikey having been steered into D.J.’ing by Mr Pitron who remains very much part of the picture. However, come tonight at ClubNation, which by the way kicks off at Lo-Profile from 10 p.m., it will be the Head n Dower show, a special six hour set certainly one to savour, while in terms of further event detail, entry to ClubNation is priced on the door at just £8 till midnight & then £10 thereafter, further information available via http://loprofile.com &/or http://facebook.com/pages/Lo-Profile/163759593639440 while for those that want to continue the party afterwards & follow Jamie to his next gig, you can grab an advance ticket to Beyond at Lo-Pro’s bar from 3 a.m., this along with tickets for this Wardour St wonder’s New Year’s Eve party which, we are told, are selling like hot cakes, meaning that, just like ClubNation tonight, Lo-Profile is very much the place to be & be seen on the scene this festive season, meaning we reckon you should “Go There! Be There!” (DISCO MATT)
