Of the mere handful of meets we made in 2013, the best of the bunch was, without doubt, DISH, which just over a year ago, celebrated its first birthday with a brilliant bash, making the promoters proud & proving that the prolific party pudding they have produced was in the excellent evening. So, a year on and we are back to raise yet another rapturous recommendation as this marvellous meet turns two, we looking into what makes DISH such a success & what to expect this Saturday.

DISH - BannerIn some ways it hardly seems a year since we last stepped foot into the exceptional east end event that is DISH, host venue East Bloc every bit as enthralling & (it has to be said) a refreshing change to the well-worn & trodden turns in a certain south London suburb, a charming collective of clubs making it very much an ample & amazing alternative to what some would call the mainstream muddle of meets. And DISH is very much part of this prolific partying picture, this brilliant & captivating clubbing brand the brainchild of the promotions partnership that is Tom Stephan & Borja Pena, the club night itself having been born out of the marvellous meet that was MEAT, the forerunner to a host of happenings both here at East Bloc & close by in The Dalston Superstore and very much responsible for making this part of town not just fashionable but irresistible to the fashion conscious & trendsetting types. Indeed, both MEAT & now DISH have become bywords for style & sophistication, mixed in with cutting edge eventing & atmosphere. But while MEAT may merely be memories, DISH is very much here & now, this superb Saturday shindig bucking the trend to tread in either Soho or south, rather excelling out east in an engagement with Shoreditch that is marvellously married, heavenly honeymooned & now settled into what looks like a long term relationship with the excellent East Bloc.

DISH - 2nd Birthday Banner

DISH - BorjaSo that’s the opulent overview but what about this second birthday bash? Well, with January normally being the leanest month of the clubbing calendar year Tom & his team decided to push back the birthday bash a month, as ears to the ground have highlighted that February was expected to boast a more bountiful bash, although DISH being the popular party it was, was packed & pumping in January, making this 2nd birthday bash all the more enticing. Indeed, Tom whet’s our appetite even more by saying “…help us celebrate two outta-site years of serving up the hottest dishes in the east end! Our boys and beats can’t be beat! We keep ’em hot and fresh!…” and given our experience of the exceptional event, he isn’t wrong, while in terms of the music, its main’s room meal served up by both Tom & Borja, each “…cooking up their signature blend of underground house and techno…”, while Cathal and Qboy offer lighter fare in the TapAss bar, our favourite spot in the place to be honest. However there is more, as Tom adds, . “…If you’re looking for something a bit spicier, check out our side dishes Ollywood and Ray Noir- always giving us a bit of bite!…” they taking charge of the second East Bloc space.  Add to that hostesses Alex and La Pequeña who will pamper to your every need, while up on the door, both Laurent & Benoit will be masterminding your smooth entry in what is likely to be a complete roadblock event, meaning an early arrival is essential to avoid being turned away, as once its full, its FULL!!!, further details up on the event page at https://facebook.com/events/1419431281628316/.

So it’s a DISH full of birthday cake celebration bonanza this Saturday, we leaving some of the final few words to Tom when he says “…we’ve got t-shirt giveaways, free Manhunt memberships and drink specials throughout the night to help celebrate- all we need is YOU!!…” and we couldn’t have said it better if we tried, meaning we will be stepping out at East Bloc for this scintillating Shoreditch session, the only question remaining being, will you?!?! About discomatt

The History........................................................Created in 2008 after a short period of blogging under his real name, the pseudonym, “Disco Matt”, was born on the back of a reputation for being London’s original party boy having partied and clubbed across the London gay scene since in mid 1990’s.........................................................Through his series of blogs via individual blogging pages which soon morphed into a full blown website (http://discomatt.com), Disco Matt established himself as an independent journalist come columnist who quickly gained a reputation for supporting & promoting one of the world’s most prolific clubbing scenes. He previewed, reviewed & recommended London gay clubs, as well as the diverse gay/metrosexual London club/bar culture, linking to & reviewing the scene top D.J.’s and generally covering the gay scene including international gay events....................................................Regularly reporting on the top events across the scene, Disco Matt’s reviews, over the years, developed a strong following, not just by clubbers, D.J’s, promoters, music producers & scene faces, but people far and wide that were looking for an insight to the incredible scene that was London. He also previewed upcoming events that signalled, either a major change or update of existing clubs, new ventures on the gAylist/metrosexual scene, or where he considered events that deserved more comprehensive coverage to that provided in other posts.............................................However, having pretty much reached the top of his game in his chosen specific field, due to a number of personal predicaments, challenges & changes in his life priorities, Disco Matt parked his writing and operation in February 2014. While the burning desire to continue remained, what this much needed period of inactivity did provide was the time & space to re-think & re-focus his activities on a broader spectrum of media and entertainment............................................................So, following this long two year lay-off, he built up the foundations for this diversification into the areas of film, theatre, radio & television where his reviewing, recommending & reporting was to be replicated & resurrected, also pointing his promotions through more visuals & video's linked to all these areas along with his core activities and passions ................................................................................The Present....................................After another (shorter) period of lay-off from mid 2016, a life changing event reignited his passion and early into 2017, Disco Matt has delivered on his promise for a new, more modern look to his website, shedding the old & tired skin in favour of something far more in keeping with the times and with his blogging roots. And he has waived a fond farewell to his clubbing days, this having also been ditched from his site & activity, rather now just focussing on the genres of film, theatre, radio, television, video and of course, music, in so doing, aiming to broaden his appeal to a much wider audience interested in the latest most cutting edge areas of media & entertainment.............................................................................His aim is to be highly regarded across the industry for his writing in these fields and ultimately become a full time critic in film &/or theatre.
