With the spotlight very much on Shoreditch, the true trendsetting scene suburb of the moment, it seems that more & more meets are mushrooming as a result, the latest addition being new Sunday nighter “Hot 2 Trot”, we taking an Extra Bites recommendation look at this new clubbing kid on the schedule block and the part it looks set to play in the mini revolution that’s erupting out east.

In the bygone years of tradition, Sunday’s were always viewed as sacramount, some viewing it as the day of rest, while others pinned a significant religious aspect to it, but as times have changed and the world has been gripped by cosmopolitan convergence, those cultural & religious borders fading or at least fuzzing, the acceptance of activities falling outside of that (some would call old age) traditional Sunday remit, has become more widespread. Yet, clubbing on a Sunday in certain circles still has a stigma about it, yet for many years now it has proven one of the most exciting days of the week to find yourself on a dancefloor, the capitals circuit particularly having sported a string of shindigs & soiree’s that have made their mark on this seventh day sabbath, names such as Factor 25, Salvation, DTPM & FF, while there can be no doubt that the mother of all, Trade, was the forerunner & founder of the so called all night clubbing revolution back in the 90’s. But while Sunday nights always had their say, the infamous days of The L.A. truly unforgettable, a varied choice of clubs spread across the capital making for a superb seventh day selection, recent times have seen a monotonous & monotone monopoly that has taken the stuffing out of Sunday’s, many trading the dancefloor for those traditions of old, the roast dinner & then feet up in rest.

However, there is a tide change that looks set to sweep the scene, the focus now firmly on Shoreditch, a new kid on the clubbing block adding to the mushrooming mix of meets that is not just regenerating this end of town as the true trendsetting scene suburb of the scene it was back in those halcyon 90’s days, but shifting, nay stealing the spotlight away from that monotone monopoly we mentioned, a tiring tyranny replaced by an exciting set of innovative events, one which is sure to score a significant step of Sunday success. And this new kid?, well it’s a club called “Hot 2 Trot”, a concept born out of a couple of one-off & irregular off-shoots from the team behind East Bloc & brands Meat, WAR & DISH, Blocheads one such event that, having tried & tested a number of venues in its short history, landed on Club Aquarium, a relatively new club on Old Street but one of many that are sprouting up across Shoreditch as that scene shift continues to gain momentum, while Aquarium’s unique selling pint is explained as “…the only nightclub in London with a jacuzzi & swimming pool on the premises…”. Yet this aside and with no particularly affinity to all things aquatic, the brand that is Blocheads worked like a dream in this new setting, a packed out party two Sunday’s ago pretty much sealing the deal on this latest  Shoreditch hotspot.

But with Blocheads wishing to remain an irregular event, the door was open for a weekly party to bridge the gap, “Hot 2 Trot” the product and this Sunday (9th June) seeing its second full-blown outing, a who’s who of scene stars connected with this new club night kid, the likes of Tom Stephan, Smokin Jo, Pagano, Kris Di Angelis, Cathal & Hannah Holland from the Blocheads crew adding to others including Francesco Poggi, Alessandro Londra, Massimo Paramour, Richard Mortimer, JoshYouAre & Johnbent Blonde, all making for a magnificent mix of locals, Londoners & internationally renowned D.J.’s that is sure to appeal. Add to that, colourful characters including Jackie Potato, Daisy Confused & the night’s hostess, Barbara Bush, plus the brilliant blend of beats & bathing (well swimming & diving in the Jacuzzi) all combining to make for a fabulously fresh new foray feel, we reckon that Hot 2 Trot while definitely prove the place to be & be seen on the Sunday scene. As for this Sunday night’s soiree, D.J.’s on duty include Francesco Poggi, Massimo Paramour & Alessando Londra in the “underground room”, one which, given the line-up could be construed as the Sicilian space, not least that our original Italian Stallion Pagano jets back from Tel Aviv to join them, while up in the “kitsch room” Richard Mortimer & Barbara Bush bang out the beats, the Hot 2 Trot go-go’s in speedo’s tempting you to do the same, meaning its best to come armed with swimwear of sorts as it is possible you may get wet. And with doors opening at 11, we also advise that you grab yourselves a flyer or ad as it’s free entry before 1 a.m. the club running through to a planned 6 a.m. finish, advance tickets at just £5 are on sale via http://residentadvisor.net, while you can get in on the door but expect to pay more. So, with Shoreditch stealing a significant step on the scene and spearheading a near revolution on the capitals clubbing circuit, we reckon it’s time to trot across to this hotspot suburb in town and succumb to the new Sunday shindig party pleasure that his Hot 2 Trot, while watch this space for a special event to mark the closing of the capitals gay pride weekend on 30th June.
