With Vauxhall having hit the headlines across the weekly gay magazines, as well as reaching a host of websites around the capital, the focus is very much on this south London clubbing mecca, although while people are throwing their thoughts towards one particular venue in question, we thought we would divert your attention to another, which welcomes back a bear-tastic bash to the scene this coming Saturday (5th November). So, while the jungle drums have definitely been beating about Fire, it is Hidden that finds itself in the spotlight here, not least as brilliant brand Bear Necessity (BN) takes up its London residency at its new home, one which looks like suiting & fitting Europe’s number one club for bears & their admirers very well indeed. And having played host to Megawoof, but also having recently undertaken an extensive refurbishment, Hidden as a venue home should work very well for BN, perhaps much better than previous place Area, especially as this weekend, it brings to London a prolific party that supports Europe’s biggest bear event.
With that backdrop painted, let’s first take a look at Bear Necessity as a brand, so as to give you an idea of what to expect from this happening tomorrow night, BN basing itself in Amsterdam and throwing its regular parties, roughly every month, at the huge Odeon theatre, the size of the venue intrinsic to the success of the parties, such is the draw of its bear fan base, not just within Amsterdam itself but right across Europe, people travelling from nearly Belgium & Germany, or from further afield such as Spain & Italy. Plus having linked in with promoters of other clubs, events & businesses, BN’s name & reputation, particularly on the continent, is as huge as it’s home in Amsterdam, the likes of RoB, Netherbears, Mr B & a host of other organisations in Holland connected with this bear brand, while Italy’s Good Bear group, along with Hungary’s Gay Bear’s club, hold associations with BN, even San Francisco’s Folsom involved. But probably their two biggest links are with both Furball, also based in Amsterdam and Mad Bear in Madrid, the latter taking place in the Spanish capital on 8th December & looking like attracting well over 4000 bears, big men & their admirers, while BN in Amsterdam hold their very popular “Bear World Wide Wood” party just next weekend.
So, what of Bear Necessity’s “Mad Bear” party here in the capital? Well, as we have hinted, it takes place at Hidden this Saturday (5th Nov) and having spoken to London promoter Firas Abiad, he tells us that you can “…expect plenty of fireworks on Saturday when Bear Necessity, comes out to play in its new home Hidden…” adding that we can also expect “…three rooms of music for this special edition of Bear Necessity, promoting Europe’s biggest bear event, MAD BEAR in Madrid…”. And given the popularity of Bear Necessity back home, as well as the draw of Mad Bear, this Saturday looks like been BN’s most lively London event yet, the weight of support from this massive Madrid events head cheese, Andy Garcia (better known as Doctor Woof), sure to help this happening at Hidden along. But it will be the D.J.’s that will take centre stage on Saturday, London’s Louis Lennon kicking off proceedings in BN main room with a progressive come tech turn, while up & coming talent, Pistol Pete, takes charge of room 2 & will be playing his unique blend of house & classic house spliced with hi-nrg and disco.
However, the fabulous evening of fury exploits will be injected with further Madrid assistance in the form of Mad Bear resident D.J. Binomio who headlines this event & brings an accomplished set of credentials with him, not least having featured for BN in Amsterdam, for Furball & for Hustlaball right here in the capital. That said, the list of clubs he has been resident & appeared for back home in Spain is substantial, big brands Space Of Sound & SuperMartXe featuring, while Bear parties seem to be his speciality, he having been part of the original team a Klubb, while his monthly residency at Madrid’s Bearzone has seen him develop a loyal following, some sure to make the trip tomorrow with him. In terms of his music style, from pumping progressive through elegant electro, there is a strong vein of dark tribal & a tinge of trance, Binomio stating of his sound, “…I offer a very personal vision of dance music, through extraordinary melodies & bases that seduce & make the dancefloor vibrate…”, his last podcast lifted from his set at Mad Hunter in March a good example of what to expect on Saturday, so one well worth a listen at http://binomio.podomatic.com/.
Now, with the BN brand embellished, the music masterminded, it down to the devil in the detail of this “Mad Bear” event and re-capping, Bear Necessity takes place this Saturday (5th Nov), tomorrow in fact, host venue Hidden opening its doors at 10 p.m. and the event running through to a planned 5 a.m., serving up three rooms of fun, as well as an area to explore in the dark, where you will surely have a terrific time feeling your fury way around. With the main space & room 2 devoted to dance, the third room provides a chill-out space where, in Farid’s words, “…you can kick back, have a beer or two and eye up the talent….”(we like a bit of that) he also advising that “…In the past Bear Necessity’s MAD BEAR parties have been packed to the rafters as Bear Necessity has been their main partner for the last three years, so avoid disappointment and get your tickets in advance!…”, which neatly moves onto entry details, those advance tickets, priced at £10, available online by going to http://www.clubtickets.com/gb/2011-11/05/bear-necessity-presents-mad-bear or if you prefer, in person at Prowler, Cloze & Comptons in Soho as well as Paris Gym in Vauxhall.
So, this definitely looks like being a bear-tastic gathering to beat them all & one for bears & their admirers not to miss, BN London’s promoter Firas polishing off this post by saying “…This is going to be a night to remember, and if you’re not planning to go to Madrid for Mad Bear, then you can have a taste of this exceptional experience at Bear Necessity this Saturday..” and we couldn’t have said it better ourselves, apart from adding that you should definitely make sure you “Go There! Be There!” (DISCO MATT)
