Fun On Four Wheels

It is no secret that when we took a trip down to Gay City Rollers 2nd birthday bash back in April, that our trip was exactly that, we falling on our dignity more than once, our tumbles even having been caught on camera. But despite having a pretty torrid time balancing on four wheels to begin with, having soon got the hang of it all, we had an absolutely terrific time, laughing & giggling our way around the specially converted Renaissance Rooms club. Indeed lamenting on it all, we putting prolific pen to paper, reviewing the whole event which you can still check out via direct link http://discomatt.com/web/2011/04/reviews-hot-pants-take-a-hit-gay-city-rollers-sunday-10th-april/, giving you an insight as to just what an entertaining evening Gay City Rollers is.

Since our last escapades, Alex Erfan & his team have rolled out (no pun intended\) a  further event, a “Royal Wedding Special” that slotted into the May Day Bank Holiday clubbing schedule, although with Gay City Rollers (GCR) returning to its regular slot, all roller disco eyes are now pointing towards the next event which takes place tomorrow evening, Sunday 22nd May. And for this latest episode in the GCR sequence of events, Alex has teamed up with Ku Bar to bring a “Ku-GCR Special” in which the Ku Bar team not so much steam roll the event, but roll out their best bits in the form of three of their resident D.J.’s, as well as the cute & curvaceous bubble but Ku boys, while The Renaissance Rooms do their bit too, opening up the outside terrace to compliment the two massive skating rinks, the plentiful seating areas & two bars as well as food points, all making for one hell of a happening. And Ku Bar’s head poncho Gary Henshaw is very much looking forward to this even, having told us that “…I am delighted to be working with Alex on Gay City Rollers, as it really is a fun event & all the Ku-Bar boys love it…”

So what’s the deal? Well, as we said, it’s a Ku Bar collective of a night, with resident D.J.’s The Very Miss Dusty O, DMS Sam & Vicky Vivacious sorting the sounds, those sounds being very much in the 70’s, 80’s & 90’s disco drenched dance theme, we highly suspect “Xanadu” being thrown in for good measure at least once, while those delicious Ku Bar boys will be mixing in with the skating socialites to add enough eye candy to make yours pop. And with a complete mix of boy & girl gyrators, from the very experienced to the rank amateurs like us, you don’t have to be an expert on four wheels to “Strictly Come Roller Disco-ing”, not at all, as you can watch from the sides, get involved full on or, like us, take the middle road & build your confidence comfortably. Plus, with one of the friendliest crowds we have seen anywhere, with absolutely NO attitude (you know what we mean!). Plus, with the timing, it’s not a late night out, meaning that if you have work the following day, then it won’t leave you missing your alarm clock, even if you have stretched some muscles you forgot you had. Mind you, rumour has it that the clubbing will continue at Ku-Klub afterwards with Lady Lloyd’s “Hit Factory”, so if you don’t have to get up, you know where to be.

Now to the devil in the detail and this “Ku-Gay City Rollers Special” takes place tomorrow evening, Sunday 22nd May at The Renaissance Rooms in Vauxhall. Entrance is via the Wandsworth Road end of Miles Street, so make sure you don’t enter from the top end, rather walk into Wandsworth Road itself. Doors open at 6 p.m., GCR running though till 11 p.m., with entry at a mere £8 before 7 p.m., then jumping to £12.50 after (so get there early basically), although that includes the skate hire as well as your first drink free. Plus we are told, if you bring your own skates the entry price will be reduced, while extra special priced tickets at £6 are available in advance by popping into Ku Bar. Plus the Ku Kollective will be heading down to GCR from Ku Kamp at 6 p.m., so if you’re central, then join them for the jaunt, if not then join us as we hit GCR nice & early.

So, it’s time to get roller disco skating again and who knows who you will bump into, we suspect possibly many, but having the best laugh while you do it. And if you see us or indeed bump into us then definitely say hi, but whatever you do, make sure you “Go There! Be There! (DISCO MATT)
