There is no doubt in our minds that we have a penchant for all things Latin, our base here in London having seen a veritable feast of flamboyant forays in recent times, the so called Spanish Armada of clubs that have included Matinee, Space, SuperMartXe, having paved the way for others, Brazil having their say with The Week, while Spain hit back with WE Party, all very much grabbing our attention and playing a major role in our clubbing calendar. However, when a club from another Latin country made a huge impression on us last May here in the capital, the love affair with Italy’s biggest & best gay club & party, truly captivated us, Muccassassina (affectionately known as “Mucca”) pretty much stealing the show at the multi evented London Global Dance Festival, although it would be a further eleven months before we savoured a second superb showing by this impressive Italian outfit, this time at Delice Dream in Barcelona, creative director Diego Longobardi & his terrific team, once again dazzling us with a scintillating showing that crowned a captivating few days in Callela.
However, as good as Mucca has been for us both in London & Barcelona, there is no real substitute for seeing this incredible Italian institution in its natural home, so when the opportunity presented itself for us to do just that, we jumped with both feet, the dream of making it to Rome for their season finale quickly turning from a dream to a reality. And looking at this curtain call to Mucca’s spring season, it looks like we couldn’t have chosen a better party, as not only will two of our very dear D.J. friends we playing out on the night, not only will the whole Mucca team be out in force, a handful we have already met in both London & Barcelona, some forming special relationships with, and not only will the Euro Pride fever ahead of the big festival on 11th June be pitching perfectly, but for this spring showstopper will be just that, as the theme, a tribute to one of Italy’s most well known & famous female singers, will mean that our terrific trip this coming Friday (27th May) will definitely prove to be “Raffaella Rapture In Rome”.
But more on the coming party in a moment, what do we know about Mucca, its history & its standing? Well, giving this colossal club its full title for a minute, Muccassassina in without doubt Italy’s most flamboyant & glamorous gay clubbing event, which takes place every Friday at Club Qube in Rome, boasting the most cosmopolitan crowd of ardent clubbers in search of some of the finest music that this Italian capital has on offer, as the glitterati of the city’s gay scene mix in splendour with their uber chic & straight clubbing cousins, as well as a dazzling doze of head turning transgenders & an intriguing injection of inquisitive queens that give this weekly event a truly awe inspiring atmosphere and has often been summarised as being “very sexy, having a definite circuit party feel & offering a complete experience”.
Having celebrated its 20th Anniversary back in November 2009, Muccassissina has established a firm reputation for putting on the most splendid events, speaking massive volumes through the music offering which is unbeatable, thus attracting some of the world’s biggest D.J. names to play, including Junior Vasquez, Mike Kelly, Max Morel, Taito Tikaro & Pablo Kapanos, but also draws in the cream of the London talent, names such as Paul Heron, Per Q.X., Guy Williams, Brent Nicholls, The Sharp Boys & Gonzalo Rivas to mention just a few, although linking in with Italian D.J. talent always seems to go down very well, Pagano & Severino having graced the clubs decks on many occasions and both Danny Verde & Phil Romano being firm favourites, complimenting the strong resident D.J. line up that includes Claudio Di Rocco, Micky Galliano, Luigi Rossi, Gianluca Pacinni, & Fabio Lanzone.
Spread across three floors, the club event hosts three distinct genres of sound, from uplifting & commercial house, through to more progressive, tribal & electro genres, also serving up a taste of hip hop & New York style underground sounds that offer an enticing blend of music styles catering for a wide variety of tastes. Add to that the stunning array of performers, whether it be muscled go-go dancers, resident drag queens that include Fuzia, Alba & Tsunami, along with extrovert vocal talents Mark & Matthew as well as Miss Mandengo, all draw together magnificently by the musical & performing direction of the flamboyant Diego Longobardi and you can just imagine why Muccassissina is not just the talk of Rome & of Italy but has a global reputation for its stunning shows & extravagant events, testament to that fact being the collection of club brands that have collaborated with Muccassissina, in the past like global sensations Salvation & Space of Sound as well as London favourites Crash & DTPM, attracting an international audience as well as cementing its impeccable reputation in its homeland.
So, come this Friday, we can certainly expect all of those magnificent Mucca attributes to be played out in scintillating style, the main room D.J. line up an absolute peach, as both Danny Verde & Micky Galliano will be gracing the decks and two better Bello’s we couldn’t have wished for. Danny will be taking the short trip from his home in Milan, although arrives at Mucca fresh from his exploits in far away Hawaii, so will be full of beans & ready to rock Rome with his trademark octane fuelled vocal drenched house hits & dancefloor delights, his towering toolbox of tunes including his latest studio work, his remix of “Ashes”, which we absolutely love & you can check out via http://soundcloud.com/eva-15/ashes-danny-verde-remix, while his “Pushin To The Top 2001 remix” will also surely feature, as well as a possible airing of his hot off the press Ellie Goulding “Starry Eyed”
remix, along with a veritable feast of others including “Express Yourself”, “Till We See The Sun” & maybe even our all time fave, “Trapped”. So, having supported Mr Verde & his work from the early stages, this is one performance we will be revelling in, plus to mark the occasion, we have commissioned the third in our special D.J. focuses, this one tilted “Magnifico Milano Man”.
As for Mr Galliano, we expect a slightly tougher collection of tunes, although with enough vocals & uplifting beats to keep those rapturous Roman’s excitingly entertained, Micky being one of Mucca’s favourite resident D.J.’s and so is sure to delight with drenches of dynamic dance delectations. And in his podcast devoted to the recent London event “Lovelife”, we have a perfect example the style of sounds to expect from him at this Mucca season closer, while other releases of his also give a hint towards the tunes he will be turning out, his compilation collections well worth a listen at http://mickygalliano.podomatic.com/, while his new track (yes he produces too!) “Every Gender” pretty much sums up Mucca in just two words and we hope will get airplay too, this six minute smash up on his Soundcloud page at http://soundcloud.com/micky-galliano. As for the rest, well it’s a drove of dynamic D.J.’s with the likes of Joao, Easy Squeaky, Fabio Tuzz, Sisco Electrofamatik & Ricky, while Diego will be drawing on the talents of his top dancers, artists & hostesses, including Fuxia, Shemale, Tsumami, Miss Tia, Alba & Texemaya, plus we are pretty much guaranteed to be blown away by the flamboyant & show stopping stage appearances throughout the night.
So, if you happen to find yourselves in Rome this coming Friday (27th may), then Muccassassina is a must, the club located at Via di Portonaccio 212 (we will be Google mapping it) with doors opening at 110.30 p.m. and the club running through until a planned 6 a.m. with entry on the door priced at 25 Euro’s, we understand advance tickets available by checking out their website at http://muccassassina.com/, where further details of this season finale party spread over three floors, can be found. And if you do make it to Mucca on Friday (which we think you should), you will no doubt find us in our favoured spot, yes you guessed, just left of the main room D.J. booth, most likely in the company of either Danny, Diego or Micky (amongst many others), so if you see us, come say hi, but make sure, you “Go There! Be There! (DISCO MATT)
