Trademark Headphones

Welcome to the second of a comprehensive catalogue of D.J. biographical style focus posts and with so many to select from the archives of our old blog pages, we will be speeding up the issues of these, intermixed with some special Music features. So, having devoted our first set to Steve Pitron, it’s now time to give Parisian based Philippino Leomeo the full DM focus treatment, we first digging back into our devotions to find the biog/focus that speaks the most volumes, we having devoted no less than four full ones in the last two years. So, given the extent of our coverage on this prolific player on the international gay clubbing circuit, not to mention some exciting news & developments, watch this space for the second in our Music Special’s, as we hone in on that news & highlight a whole raft of reports reigning rapture on this terrific talent. But first to the focus/biog……

Full Focus Issued May 2010 in advance of Leomeo’s inclusion in the huge London Global Dance Festival

So our focus goes to the drop dead gorgeous Leomeo and if there is a D.J. that is unmistakably French yet has deep veins of his global travelling running through his body, it is Leomeo, there being few that can boost both his whirlwind lifestyle and destination repertoire that has seen this very amiable and handsome young man inspired by music from a tender age, also drawing his eclectic style from experiences during his travels, especially across Asia. However, his tastes were first developed when maturity allowed a young Leomeo to explore the clubbing scene in his home city Paris, drawing influences from the legendary David Guetta & also Laurent Garnier, often observing & admiring their techniques behind the decks as he partied away in clubs like “Le Boy” and Le Palace”. So, it was inevitable that he would soon find himself spinning discs too, but in a period of his life when he decided to up sticks from France & head for the pulsating pace of Singapore, using it as a springboard to not only enrich his culture, venturing across to Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, China Vietnam & back again, a real highlight being when he played in front of 8000 revellers at Singapore’s “Nation Party”.

Strike A Pose

But Europe was always going to draw him back and at residency at “Le Bains-Douche” in Paris proved a solid base for a host of circuit parties around the continent, including dance music brand Hed Kandi, & Space Of Sound, as well as more regular gigs in both London for “Discotec” & in Rome for “Gorgeous I Am”, also making a name for himself with a full summer season in Ibiza & then fulfilling requests to play as far afield as Montreal & New York, to Moscow & Tel Aviv, with plenty of places in between, Antwerp, Barcelona, Berlin, Cologne, Madrid & Prague as well as back in Paris. Other career highlights have included his D.J.’ing presence at Kylie Minogue’s perfume launch party & the afterparty for Pierre & Giles’s 30th anniversary exhibition at “Jeu De Paume” in the French capital, not to mention a magnificent reception & amazing performance at Greenkomm’s New Year’s Eve celebration. Away from his live D.J’ing, Leomeo still cuts a stride on France’s music radio station Radio FG, his “Underground FG” show getting a twice monthly slot, receiving a healthy audience and he gets into the recording studio as much as he can as well, a whole collection of mix compilations representative of his vast array of musical styles which include electro, progressive, tribal, tech & vocal house, this talented individual often navigating through these different genres to great effect.

Dependant on where he is playing or the influences he gains from his travels , this very much dictates his style, whether it be through his “soft” , “energetic” or “pleasurable” mix series, a selection of which can be found at http://soundcloud.com/djleomeo which includes two amazing extracts from his sets playing for Matinee in Paris.  But he also cuts track singles and his release “The New Sound Of C” is a fantastically uplifting & funky electro piece that is destined to be a huge dancefloor hit this spring/summer and his latest, “Give Me Love”, has already been given the remix treatment by Pagano, Aurel Devil & Javier Medina. But while Leomeo is very proud of his studio work, his insatiable appetite for travel continues to draw him out into the limelight & away from home, recent trips including to Australia for Sydney’s Mardi Gras festival, which allowed him to drop in on his beloved Singapore & Bangkok, as well as hitting the snowy slopes of Tignes for the European Gay Ski Week, playing out at the fabulous pool party and with gigs, underpinning his reputation & in demand style. Meaty Manfest

Having given East Bloc plenty of coverage in our Weekend Best Bites & Short Shouts Recommends posts over the last few months, it is surprising to us, as much as the men across in Shoreditch, that we have yet to step foot into this NYC style industrial hip & happening hangout on Old Street, although tonight (Saturday 14th May) will see us make amends as we head out east for one of the venue’s hottest tickets, as “Meat” rolls out its 4th outing and it looks like being a blast.

Titled “Kennedy Carter’s Last Dance”, we’ll come onto to that in a moment, but the best way to kick of this Extra Bite devotion is to introduce you to the faaabulous video the Meat men have put together, giving you more than an inkling of what to expect at East Bloc tonight. With the resounding message being “Dress Down To Dare”, as little as possible basically, we cannot think of a better way of kicking of the “Meat” mood by taking a look at http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ivd41N_tHKQ&feature=youtu.be.

So, what is “Meat” all about? And what’s on offer over at East Bloc tonight? Well, the concept of this predominately male orientated outing was born by the D.J./Producer duo of Kris Di Angelis & Tom Stephan, two terrific talents that have been tipping our scales of musical enjoyment for quite a few years, Tom especially remembering those uber sexy underground days of Crash when clubbing decadence & naughtiness was at its best. So having moved on & out east too, in the process re-connecting with Crash’s promoter Wayne Shires, the idea of offering something sexy & edgy was always a plan and with a real melting pot of forward thinking individuals in & around this latest gay hotspot, plus with a penchant for something excitingly different to the generic grunge of Vauxhall, “Meat” was born, harping a little back to the Crash days, but looking forward with cutting edge sounds & in suitable surroundings, the punch line “…where the drinks are as cheap of the boys are hot – the vibe is electric & the jeans get dropped…”.

With the picture painted, tonight will see two rooms of raunchy action, the music as macho as the men, the first space sport the original D.J. “Meatheads”, James Pople, Tom Stephan & Kris Di Angelis, bashing out the beats for the boys, with some of the hot & hung go-go’ seen this side of Sydney, while in room two, its “Mincemeat” action with Urban White Boy Kingsley and the coolest tranny in town, Munroe Bergdorf, throwing down opulent old-skool R&B, while with the giveaway in the title, it will be the last performance of “Meat’s” resident renegade master, Kennedy Carter’s last performance before he hits the sunshine trail, this one man show stopping sex machine sure to go out in style, with a bang, although the men will make him struggle before he finally flees to “Meat” flock, so expect plenty of ravenous action from start to finish.

So, where & when does all this audacious action take place? Well, by now you should have gathered that the host venue for “Meat” is East Bloc, located at 217 City Road (that’s on the edge of Shoreditch & Hoxton – nearest tube Old St) and kicks off at 10.30 p.m., running through till 6 a.m. with entry a mere £5 before 12 and then £8 afterwards. Now, having spoken with Kris a short while ago, who made a point of saying that its gets busy early, so a hint to get yourselves across town in a trice. Plus, another reason to get there early is so you can grab the much sought after prize of a “Meat” t-shirt and having see Mr Stephan sport one at “Downtown” at The Brixton Clubhouse last Bank Holiday, they are worth every single penny. Add to that a whole load of brand new porn installations which fuse Tom’s passion for men on men loving, a tad full of tranny rape & bambi fetish thrown in and there will be plenty of meaty art to feast your eyes on, apart from the meaty men & meaty music. More details on East Bloc can be found by going to http://eastbloc.co.uk.

Well, enough said really, apart from its time to speed across to Shoreditch for this saucy & sexy shindig and in the process catch us in the thick of the action supping our non alcoholic drinks, but consuming the colossal concoction of “Meat” action on offer, so if you see us, come say hi, leaving us to say, make sure you “Go There! Be There! (DISCO MATT)

From Israel With Love

As can often be the case with club events, some last minute editions & or changes tend to miss our radar or get included in our focus & recommends posts, Lovechild Meets FFF being no exception to that rule. So, with some fresh information to hand, we thought we would share it with you in a special postscript, also re-confirming some of the all important detail with you.

So what are these last minute changes you need to keep your eyes peeled for? Well, first & foremost, we are excited t announce the inclusion of a special P.A. performance for this Tel Aviv meets London triumph, the FFF group welcoming songstress Bella, who is sure to impress & excite with her vivacious voice & scintillating stage presence. Plus, with a C.V. that sparkles, Bella having worked with some of music industry’s biggest including David Guetta & Freddie le Grand, as well as for huge dance group Hed Kandi, her distinctive short blonde hair certainly shouting a statement as will her show.

But in addition this luscious Lovechild meet will also benefit from the influence of drag performer K-Long, arguably the most well known drag performer in Israel. Her unique look, her  statuesque height of and her avant-garde shows, mean she will certainly be wowing the audience come tonight (Sat 14th May) and having performed in several major cities across the Europe, including Paris, Rome, & Amsterdam, so will be lapping up London for sure. Being an integral part of The FFF Group World Tour and responsible for costume design, she will be bringing a real sense of heightened (no pun intended) couture to this exceptional event.

Marco Mix Masterpiece

On the music front, we are also pleased to report on the inclusion of Marco Gee, a D.J. who has been cutting a considerable stride on London’s gay clubbing circuit of late. Having been treated to a truly superb set at Lovechild “Muscle” back in March, Marco has also being playing regularly for Barcode Vauxhall, has been rubbing D.J. deck shoulders with the likes of MisWhite & Paul Heron and featured large in the Bel Ami sexfest “Lookbetternaked” just last Saturday (7th May). Yet, away from the dancefloor D.J. decks, Marco remains pretty busy in the recording studio too, sampling plenty of tracks and including some on his regular podcasts, his latest offering, simply entitled “Volume 7”, having been released just yesterday onto iTunes, which you can subscribe to at http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/in-my-house-mixed-by-marco-gee/, while we are sure he will also load it onto his podomatic page, where you can still grab his “Deep House” mix from April & that live recording from Lovechild “Muscle” in March at http://marcogee.podomatic.com/. So, Marco’s addition to this latest Lovechild party is much welcomed & he will be playing alongside Tony Bruno in the “love” lounge, so make sure you pop in, as we are sure you will be in for a treat of you do.

Now, as a quick reminder to our full Weekend Focus post (direct link http://discomatt.com/web/2011/05/recommends-double-dose-of-pride-lovechild-meets-fff-saturday-14th-may-weekend-focus/, make sure you grab your advance tickets while you can by ether going online to http://clubtickets.com/gb/2011-05/14/lovechild-presents-fff-group and/or via http://alexerfan.com, these still priced at just £10, as are those on sale across Soho’s outlets Prowler, Clone Zone & 50. Doors for this Lovechild Meets FFF event open at 11 p.m., the club running through until 6 a.m., entry on the door available but slightly pricier than the advance tickets, so you know what to do! Plus, for you party people that don’t want to stop, there is Beyond at Area straight after, discount tickets available throughout the duration of Lovechild.

So, it’s definitely party time for Lovechild with an incredible Israeli twist, the FFF crew having landed and preparing for tonight’s spectacular showing. Sadly, we will not be at Fire (nor at Area) but we highly recommend you are, so make sure you “Go There! Be There! (DISCO MATT)

DM Dance Diary

Back in January we issued a brief report publishing our whereabouts, predominately as, during February, we were spending a considerable time out of the capital, so, with an inevitable break in our regular posting transmission, wanted to keep you informed of our whereabouts.

However, as our life seems to be increasingly hectic and with so many different clubs, bars & events craving for our attention, we thought we would get in the habit of keeping you informed of what’s going on in Disco Matt land and where we will be sending out our already infamous “Nibble Sized Review Tweets”, in advance of our very popular bite sized reflections, otherwise known as our “Preview The Reviews”, all of course in advance of where it all began, our full-on reviews of where we have been & been seen.

Now, May has already been a hectic month for us so far, with the first day alone seeing four club visits, Beyond vs La Demence, Downtown, Lovelife & WE Broadway, while we polished it all off on 2nd with Later. The prolific pace continued last week, with a trio of club & event visits which we termed as our “Soho Society Social Soiree Showdown”, taking in Industri, Room Service & Society on 4th, 5th & 6th respectively, rounding off four delightful days with one of the best Beyond’s of the year so far, for us at least. So, with an up-coming Bank Holiday to consider, plus with heaps of review writing to post, we have toned down our dance diary a little, although, with three European trips & some exciting inclusions as well as some stark exclusions, this is how it is shaping up over the next three weeks.

Go There! Be There!

Now, you will see that, whilst there are two European trips included in our diary, this probably the most exciting development in Disco Matt land, (we have La Demence on Sun 12th June too!), there are some notable exclusions, namely Beyond, WE Party, As One & Orange, all who will be rolling out special events for the coming Bank Holiday weekend. However, due to ongoing issues with a member of the management team of The Orange Group, we have taken the painful decision to withdraw our coverage of these clubs/events until further notice. Given the gravity (no pun intended) of the situation, we are not sure where this will lead, although remain satisfied that, with so much else on offer across London, as well as over in Europe, we will not only be just as busy as ever, but will be able to report on a much wider variety of parties. With the re-emergence of promoter Wayne Shires, the collaborations between Jodie Harsh & Logan Schmitz & some exciting new changes on the horizon, both within the clubbing scene & for us, means that our future is looking bright, the future being with or without Orange!

So that’s our dance diary laid out for the rest of May & into June, so all that’s left to say is, if you see us out come say high, but as always, make sure you “Go There! Be There! (DISCO MATT)
